Holiday Gifts for Her: Amazon Edition

For the first time ever, I wanted to create my very own gift guide for the holiday season.

Working on holiday gift guides for an an online shopping brand helped me realize one major thing: that picking out gifts for other people while ignoring your own personal tastes and preferences – is actually really hard.

It opened my eyes to how difficult it must be for other people to give me gifts. Without knowing exactly what I like and what I don’t, I’m guessing it’d be pretty damn hard to succeed. I wouldn’t say I’m picky. I guess my taste is just particular. But that seems to create a small challenge for my loved ones year after year. Yes, I’m talking about you, Dad.

With that being said, I came up with a few best practices to help your search for the perfect gift to give to gals like me. If all else fails, stick to the following.

3 Main Gift Tips:

  • Steer clear of flashy colors.

I don’t wear pink, purple, yellow, orange or any other color if it looks too bright. My furniture, bedding and every decorative accent in my room  is either white, grey, or black. My jewelry is either silver or gold. 95% of my clothing is black, white, or beige.

The point is, choosing a flashy color while trying to pick out an item she’ll love is a risk. If you don’t know her like the back of your hand and you aren’t confident about her color preferences, just play it safe with the neutrals.

  • If you (happen to) know a name brand she likes, use it to your advantage.

When it comes to my taste in clothing, accessories and decor, I like what I like. My taste is mostly minimalist, which, I know – contradicts my messy car and even messier room. But because of that, I have quite a few favorites when it comes to fashion, accessories, and home stuff.

For example, I know it sounds predictable, but I love almost anything Kate Spade. If you buy me something Kate Spade, there’s a good chance I’ll like it regardless of what it actually is.

  • Think practical.

You’re taking a huge risk when you choose a gift that’s super rare, unique or overall unheard of by the general population.

When all else fails, go back to the basics: a super nice pair of wireless headphones, a daily planner, a plain yet comfortable scarf or a basic, neutral clutch.

If you can’t think of something she’s guaranteed to like, then think of items she might actually use. You can’t go wrong with practicality.
